Circumcision pros and cons
Should I or should I not get my son circumcised
I am seven months pregnant with a baby boy. My mom told me that the hospitals will automatically circumcise unless told not too. So she saying I should make up my mind ahead of time on whether or not I want my son to be circumcised. I am doing this by myself since my son father died in a car accident.
I have be told many different things about this issue. That it is better for you not to circumcised because boys that are un-circumcised have a better chance not contracting sexual diseases. Is that true? However on the flip side of the issue, I am told it is better to circumcised due to looks and how it may effect him when he is older.
So do I do nothing and let him make that dission when he is older? If I do won’t that cause him more pain then if I just do it when he is a baby? I asked my doctor but she just says it is a choice I need to make. Any advise would be helpful in helping me with this.

Are you religious? If so you may be able to address this issue that way. Some religions say too circumcise were others religions would be against. Find out what yours would say about the issue. Maybe that will help you with your decision.

I would say that teaching your son safe sex would be a better way to prevent STDs and other sexual diseases. I am hard press to believe that being uncircumcised would make much if any difference when it comes to contracting sexual diseases.
As for my opinion I think circumcisions is a bit barbaric. I do not see any real benefits going either way. Therefor why cut off something just because you may not like the way it looks.

I am sorry to hear that your son’s father is not around. However, I would suggest talking to your male friends about this issue. They would know best. They had to live with the choices their parents had made.
I think as females we do not fully understand this issue because it just comes down to looks for us. We do not deal with it on a daily bases.
This may be a hard topic for you to bring up with the males in your life whether they are friends or family. Though I am sure they will be able to give you more incite on the issue at hand.

I have two sons and both were circumcised. Both my husband and I looked into this issue. I never came across information about uncircumcised men have a lower risk for contracting sexual diseases. However, we did read that uncircumcised men have a high chance of passing the HPV virus to woman, which can cause cervical cancer.
In the end it will come down to person choice. If you are unwilling to make that choice, then your son can make it later in life. It may be more painful but who can really say that is true or not. A baby will forget any pain it may have had. A young adult boy will not.

My wife and I chose to circumcise our son. It was just a choice we made.
I think for the US the average percent of male babies having circumcision is around 65% which as gone down over the years. If you decide not to do it your son will surely not be seen as different.
I know you stated that you did try to talk to your doctor for advise. However maybe ask your OBGYN for some literature on it. I would think that they should have something on the subject.

What does being religious have to do with circumcision anyway? For the sake of mankind it is a personal decision. How would you feel having someone cut down there anyway.
I think this gets carried way too far. Yeah, some claim medical reasons but from the last time I could tell you don’t see too many guys dying from a little extra skin.
If you must go to the hatchet at least be sure you have a male doctor. He may have a little better understanding of just how delicate one needs to be with the knife.
