Dental care for kids

How do you find good dental care for kids

I have a two year old that will need to start seeing a dentist.  My husband had us on his dental insurance, it is a very good plan.   I am not worry so much about cost.  What I am wanting to know is how do I find a good dental office for my daughter.   The dentist that both my husband and I go to is good for us.

However, I do not think he gives good dental care to kids.  Seems to me he really does not like getting young kids although he will still take them.  I say this because I have seen him with others kids and he just seems short with them.  Also I spoke to the office staff and was told that they are fit more for adults, but if my child is good with the dentist they can take her too.

How do I go about finding a dentist that will not just take my son but will make my son feel welcome and will a coarse do good work.

Finding a good dentist for a baby is the same process as finding a good dentist for yourself.

First start off by calling the dental office and confirming over the phone what is the age limit that they have for children. If they say they can handle two year olds without any issues, then start asking any other questions you may have. Such as business hours do they take your insurance if you have any. What ever is important to you.

When you find a few and want to narrow your options down. Do what I did stop by the office. Walk in check it out. Do you see many kids? Does it look kid friendly. Do the people seem nice? Take your son with you. Get a feeling for how he feels about the place.

Since your son is still at a young age. Ask if they aloud you to have your son sit in your lap when he see the dentist. Some offices that are kid friendly prefers for you to sit with your child if it helps them while having any dental work done.

You should look for a pediatric dentist. When your current dental office said they were more fit for adults it is because they are not a kid friendly dental office. Meaning unlike a pediatric who has toys, kid stuff and decor gear more for children then adults. They would not have anything to make a child feel more convertible.

That is why you need to make sure that if you are going to take your child into see a general dentist that they are equipped to handle a young child.

Pediatric dentist may cost more money but that is all they do is dental work for children.

Yea my dentist was the same way. He is a very good dentist and does great work for both me and my wife. However, when I asked about taking my three year old to him he said that my son would need to be okay with seeing a dentist.

That he was not quipped to handle a child that would be kicking and screaming though out the dental process. He said we could give it a try but if my son did not let him do the check up I would need to find a pediatric dentist.

I totally understood were he was coming from. I do not blame him for not wanting to get kick, hit or bit by a child. I knew my son would not have any of these issues so took him to see my dentist. Everything went just find. My son was very well behaved.

In short you know your child the best and how he will behave at the dentist. If you feel that he would not be scared or have any problems then I am sure your current dentist like mine would be fine.

However if you are not sure or worried he will cause some issues, it may be best to take your son to a pediatric dentist. A pediatric dentist are better equipped for any problems a child may have with them.
