Cloth diapers vs disposables

I am going to be having my second child in about two months. With my first child we with with disposable diapers but I have been thinking about going to cloth diapers for my second child.
I have been looking into cloth diapers and when to visited a specialty store to be able to see some of the more popular brands diaper.
I felt a little over whelmed, there is just so much to chose from. So I would like to hear other opinions about cloth diapers vs disposables diapers. If you have used cloth diaper did you use a service to clean them or did you clean them yourself ?
