Does what you eat effect your unborn baby’s teeth

Nov. 29th 2009

New baby on the way

I will be having a new baby in about seven more months.   I remember being told somewhere  or by someone that what you eat can effect your unborn baby teeth.   I also hear your own teeth can start to have problems while you are pregant.  Any one have some information they can share with me about this topic?

Pediatric dentists Vs General dentist for your baby

Nov. 28th 2009

Pediatric dentist are they  better or just more expensive

My daughter is a few months shy of two years old and will be seeing a dentist soon.  I have a family dentist that is willing to see my daughter but states that it will depend on my daughter if things work out.  I have been seeing him for over ten year my self and feel he is really good.  However my husband feels that we may want to just take our daughter to a pediatric dentist.   He thinks they are better I say they are just expensive.   Your feed back will help us come to a decision.

At what age can you brush your baby’s teeth with toothpaste

Nov. 28th 2009

When can you use toothpaste on your child teeth.

At what age is a good age to start using toothpaste for your baby’s teeth?  Right now my son is eight months and I have been using dental wipes.  When should the use of toothpaste be okay?  I do not want to use it to soon and I was thinking one an a half to be okay.  What age do you start your brushing your baby’s teeth at?

Nov. 28th 2009

What is the right way to brush your baby’s teeth?

I have a seven month old son.  Besides  brushing his teeth twice a day, this there a correct way to brush them?  What can you use if you do not want to use toothpaste or even baby toothpaste.  Is there something else you can use until they are a little older?

What Can Parents and Caregivers Do? Improving the Kids Teeth

Nov. 28th 2009

What Can Parents and Caregivers Do?

  • Pregnant women should get prenatal care and eat a healthy diet that includes folic acid to prevent neural tube defects and possibly cleft lip/palate. During pregnancy avoid tobacco and alcohol, and check with a doctor before taking any medications.
  • Put only water in your baby’s bottle at bedtime or naptime. Milk, formula, juices, and other drinks contain sugar. Prolonged exposure to sugary drinks while baby sleeps – when saliva flow is reduced – increases the risk of tooth decay.
  • Take your child for an oral health assessment between ages 1-2, and every six months thereafter.
  • Protect your child’s teeth with fluoride. Use a fluoridated toothpaste, putting only a pea-sized amount on your child’s toothbrush. If your drinking water is not fluoridated, talk to a dentist or physician about the best way to protect your child’s teeth.
  • Encourage your children to eat regular nutritious meals and to avoid frequent between-meal snacking.
  • Talk to your child’s dentist about dental sealants, which protect teeth from decay.
  • Make sure your child wears a helmet when bicycling and uses protective headgear and mouth guards in other sports activities.
