Dental work needed on a ten year old

Jan. 31st 2010

I just took my son to the dentist for his check up.   He has two small cavities.  The dentist says they are not really big at  all but should get filled.   I have made the appointment for a week from now.  These are his first cavities.  I thought he was taking good care of his teeth.  I have him brush after breakfast and dinner every day.

Newborn question, do you wake your baby to nurse.

Jan. 31st 2010

I will be having my son in a week or so.  My husband and I have been reading many books and took a few child classes.  Most of what I read and been told is that you need to nurse or feed your baby about every three hours.  Well okay but do you wake your baby up to feed or to you wait?  If you wait then it puts off the three hour mark.   Which is best to wait and feed your child when they wake up or to wake them up to feed?

Discolored baby teeth

Jan. 30th 2010

Our daughter is just starting to cut her first few teeth.  They do not seem as white as I would think new baby teeth would be. Her teeth seem to be a little grayish to my husband and I.  Should her discolored teeth be a concern to us?  Will her teeth whiten up over time as we care for them?  She is our first child so I am not sure if it this is just normal or not.

Space maintainers for a five year old

Jan. 30th 2010

Baby teeth and space maintainers

My five year old daughter knocked out two of her front teeth.   She was running in the play area in the park and fell on the slide.  We took her to the doctor and she is okay now but two of her front teeth fell out.

One year old and a swimming pool

Jan. 29th 2010

What is a good age to start teaching your child to swim?

I have a very happy and curious little girl.  She is starting to find her feet and learning how to walk.  I have a swimming pool in our back yard though it is not an issue now and it is gated I still worry about her finding her way in when she is older.

How do you sooth a crying baby

Jan. 28th 2010

My son is teething

I have a teething baby boy.  The thing is he is crying now for the better part of the day and night.  I have talked to his doctor and was told this is something he just has to go though.  Since he does not have a high temperature the crying is normal.   However how can I sooth him so he does not cry so much?

Organic baby food is it better?

Jan. 28th 2010

What do you think ?  Organic baby food or regular baby food?

I am breast feeding my four month old son right now.  However, when I start to feed him food I am torn between just regular baby food and organic baby food.  Is organic baby food better the regular baby food?  We seem to really be going to the trend of organic eating but I am not shore if it is better or just more expensive.  Opinions please

Pregnancy and dental care

Jan. 27th 2010

I will be having my first child in seven months.  Before my pregnancy I was having normal dental care.  I am due for my dental cleaning in a few weeks.   I made the appointment before becoming pregnant.  My question is do I still keep my dental appointment?  I know a few friends that did not go to the dentist while they were pregnant.  Is that normal?

Root Canal Treatment for a child – A safe way to save a tooth

Jan. 27th 2010

Before pulling a baby tooth think about having a root canal.

A root canal is a treatment used to repair and save a tooth that is badly decayed or becomes infected. Root canal treatment, also known as endodontic therapy, is probably the most maligned of all dental procedures, but the reputation of pain typically associated with “having a root canal” is really not deserved.  Today, root canal treatment has given dentists a safe way of saving teeth.
