Pregnancy and dental care

Wednesday, Jan. 27th 2010 6:42 PM

I will be having my first child in seven months.  Before my pregnancy I was having normal dental care.  I am due for my dental cleaning in a few weeks.   I made the appointment before becoming pregnant.  My question is do I still keep my dental appointment?  I know a few friends that did not go to the dentist while they were pregnant.  Is that normal?

No keep all your dental appointments. You want to take extra good care of your teeth and gum while you are pregnant. Missing appointments can cause gum and teeth issues. Just let your dentist know that you are pregnant so they take the extra care that is needed.

That is a common mistake that is made by many. The problem is that it is a mistake that can become costly. Not only to your own dental health but to your baby. Gum disease can cause low birth weight. You want to take care of your teeth and gums by going to the dentist for checks up durning your pregnancy. Do not let others tell you not to go.

Going to the dentist while you are pregnant is safe. Just let you dentist know that you are now pregnant.

Yea, not a good idea. I let people talk me out of going to the dentist while I was pregnant. All it really did was made me have larger dental billing after having the baby.

I had to have deep cleaning and two filling. That was something that could have be avoided if I just went to the dentist. I had really good teeth before I stop going for a year. I would never tell someone not to go to the dentist now.
