The book store I go to has ages broken sections like 2-6 6-10 etc. So I just take them to the correct section and let them get whatever they may want in that area. I do not says things like get a boy book. My three year old's last pick was Cinderalla because he liked the mice in it. Though the time before that was a book about the happy dinosaur. There are good non-gender books that you can get for your sons. I like getting my son books about: bugs, fishes or dinosaurs. Any animal they may like is good. Finding books about things they like, may also give them a chance to learn new things as well. My son loves his all about sharks book we got him.
