Tooth Extraction, To pull or not to pull that is the question

Monday, May. 10th 2010 3:04 PM

So here is my story please advise:

Over two years ago I had a tooth that was starting to give me problems.  I went to the dentist and he said then that I should have a root canal done on the tooth.  Since I did not have the money he did a filling for me instead.  He  stating to me that it was not going to last forever and  I will need to get the root canal as soon as I had the extra money.

So I started saving up for the root canal when I got pregnant with my third child.   Any money I had saved up for the root canal was spent on our new family member.  My son who is now two months is with us and we are now a family of five.

So much time as went by since the filling was done.  As the dentist predicted the filling did not last and now that same tooth is really hurting me.  When I went back to the dentist I was told that not only do I need a root canal but that I have an infection.   The dentist said as soon as the infection is cleared I need to have the root canal done.   At this point I still do not have the money for a root canal.

Talking things over with the dentist he stated that I could have the tooth pulled that it would cost less then the root canal.  However he warned me that I need to think it over.  Having the tooth pull could lead to my other teeth shifting causing me to have gaps.

I am not sure what to do now.  We are talking about a $600.00 dollard different from having a root canal done  ( since it needs to be done by a specialist.) Then just having my dentist pull the tooth.  Please give me your thought on the subject.  What would you do if it was you?
