At what age should you introduce Toothpaste to a child

Friday, May. 28th 2010 1:52 PM

My daugher Janie is only three months right now but I would like to know at what age should you start using toothpaste on a baby?  I would also like to know around what age should a child be when they start brushing their own teeth?  Just wondering.

I used non fluoride tooth pasted once all of my daughter baby teeth came in. By the time she was four she was brushing on her own but she still use non fluoride tooth pasted.

At first when she was three I would let her brush her teeth with me watching and helping when needed.

It will depend on your child when she can really start to brush her teeth on her own well enough that you know she is brushing and not just playing around.

Though I to used non fluoride toothpaste with my children until they were eight. If you use fluoride toothpaste only use a pea size amount or less. Make sure you lock up your toothpaste or keep it out of reach because some kids like to eat toothpaste which can make them very ill.
