Dental care for children, Brushing teeth

Friday, Aug. 6th 2010 8:14 AM

My 18 month old son will not yet me brush his teeth.  It is a fight every time he refuses to open his mouth.  I even tried letting him brush is own teeth but he does not really bush he just sucks on the tooth brush.

Brushing his teeth becomes a 15 – 20 minutes ordeal instead of a three minute brushing.  I do not understand what I am doing wrong my other son who is four I never had this issue with him.  I know all kids are different but I do not know how to address this with my son so it is not and issue and he will not fight with me on brushing his teeth.

Try changing out the toothpaste you are using maybe it just that he does not like the taste of the toothpaste. Have you taken him to see the dentist yet?

That may be a good idea get him use to going now before it becomes an issue.

Well your son is a little young to be trying to brush his teeth on his own. If he does not like the brush in his mouth try using a finger brush for now until he get use to you cleaning his teeth.
