Baby dental care, one cavity

Sunday, Aug. 22nd 2010 9:52 AM

My six year old son has gotten one cavity that the dentist said needs to be filled.  He never had any cavities before.  I never had a cavity either so I do not know what it is like to get a filling done.  Does it hurt?  What should I expect?  Little worried over this so I would love some information.

Relax having a filling is not too bad. The dentist will numb out the area where the tooth his so that your son should not feel any pain.

He should only feel the pressure of the drilling. Assuming your child is not scared of going to the dentist in general it should not even bother him.

Make sure you do not put out sides of being worried about him having the filling done. Otherwise your son may pick up on your concerns and start getting up set over it.

My daughter had a filling when she was four. Her dentist was so good with her and she did not feel anything. The dentist made her relaxed and everything was fine.

If you have a good dentist you trust your son will be fine. As hurting I do not think they hurt but the drilling noise can be off putting. If you want tell your dentist you want to be with your son while he has the filling done that may also help your son knowing you are right there for him.
