Why should I have to pay for dental insurance ?

Tuesday, Aug. 24th 2010 8:08 AM

I been on my job now for over a year and just now got my medical benefits for my family.    I thought that your job has to offer you dental as well as medical insurance beneifits.  I am very up set that I find out now that I will not be getting  free dental insurance though my job.  Now what the heck am I to do when my two year old needs to go to the dentist but I can not afford it?

Normally a job will inform you of the benefits they offer. You may not have asked at the time. However when you had to sign up for the insurance you would have had all the information as to what the benefits were.

I do not believe that dental insurance is a requirement for the employer to offer. This problem is not such a large one. If you want dental insurance you can still buy dental insurance for you and your family.

Are you for real? If you get a job that offers dental insurance your are lucky. However you are normally still paying a part of the premium cost for the plan and your employer pays the rest. It is normally not free.

You may want to look at your pay check to see how much is being taken out for your medical benefits. I also agree with the last reply. I never worked at a job for a year without knowing what my benefits where going to be. Sounds like you drop the ball and now want to be upset with your job.

Take the time to looking into getting dental insurance on your own for you family. You can still find many good low cost dental insurance plans depending on your dental needs. Just make sure you read and understand the plans terms and conditions so that you will not have any surprises after the fact.

Although I know it can be upsetting not getting the benefits you felt you should I am not sure at this point that there is anything you can do about it now. Being upset with your job will not get you the dental insurance you are needing.

However the bright light is there are many great stand alone dental insurance plans you can still get on your own for you and your families needs.

One way to start is just by entering your zip code at the top of the screen in order to review the dental insurance and dental plan that are available to you in your state.
