Good dental hygiene, teeth care for kids?

I have a two year old and we brush our teeth together twice a day.  I brush his right now for him but when he is old I will let him brush his own teeth. My question is this is my first child when is a good age to start letting them brush their own teeth?  When is it a good age to let them floss?   And any other helpful tips would be nice too.  thanks.
