Baby Dental, Understanding the difference between porcelain and metal crowns

Friday, Mar. 21st 2014 9:59 AM

I need to get a crown and my dental insurance covers for full metal and porcelain fused to metal crowns.   My dentist said he would do either and a coarse the full metal crown are more more affordable for me.  The tooth that I need a crown on is all the way in back on one of  my back molars.  Which crown would be the best to get.

Answer: Which crown you get is what you feel is best for you and your own budget.  However a metal crown is just that and it will be silver in color. Making it look like you have a silver tooth.  Since it is a tooth in the back you may not mind since it will probably not show when you smile.  Where as a porcelain fused to metal crown will look more like your own teeth.  Since the tooth is in the back  you will not even be able to tell you have a crown on that tooth if you choose this option.
