Baby Dental, When should I add my baby to our dental insurance?

Friday, Apr. 1st 2016 8:12 AM

Question: Currently I am three months pregnant and I would like to know when I should add my baby to our dental insurance.  The health is already taken care of at birth but the dental in a different policy so not sure when I should add my baby to the plan.

When do you first need to take your baby to see a dentist?  I really do not know so I would like to have some idea.  I want to make sure I have my baby covered before going to a dentist.

Answer: This is a common question often asked. It comes down to what you feel is best. A few things to check into would be:

1) Does your dental insurance have an enrolment date?

2) If so that is something to keep in mind when adding a dependent.

3) How many people are on your current plan now? Some dental plans do not cost more after three people are currently on it. So if that fits for you adding you new baby may not make a difference in cost so you may as well add her right away.

4) I advise calling your dental insurance carrier to find out the above.

5) Knowing about your dental insurance plan limitation will help you decide when would be a good time to add your child.

6) It is advise that a baby dose see a dentist when he/she cuts their first tooth or by the age of one whichever comes first.
