Question: Can I stay with my baby?

My son who is one and a half and needs to go to the dentist.  I will be making an appointment for him.  My question is can I stay with my son while the dentist is looking at his teeth?  My dentist say no so I have been calling around.  It seems like they do not want you do do that.  It is not that I do not trust the dentist but I do not want to leave my son.  I do not understand why this is a problem  I stay with my son when I take him  to see the doctor.  Why do dentist not want me to stay with him?  My dentist said I would need to wait in the waiting room.  Is that common?

Reply: That seems odd. Most dentist do not mind parents doing that for young children it normally helps the child to stay more comfortable, calm and free from stressing. My question would be are you seeing a Pediatric dentist or a General family dentist. Pediatric dentist may cost a little more but they are better equipped to handle small children and will more then likely not have any problems with you being with your son during treatment.  However call around until you find a dentist that will do want you want in the end I think you will feel better if you do
