My Son’s Teeth are Crooked

Thursday, Mar. 13th 2014 9:23 AM

My six year old has crooked teeth.  They are baby teeth but I worry that he may need to have braces for his adult teeth if his baby teeth are so crooked.  I do not have dental insurance that offer benefits for braces and I am not sure if I should get dental insurance now for braces or wait until the dentist tells me he needs braces.

Answer:  If you have current dental insurance talk to your son dentist and see if they feel braces are going to be needed or not.  Just because his baby teeth are not straight does not mean his adult teeth will need to have braces.  However if the dentist feels it is a strong possibility braces will be needed ask the dental around what age will your son need to have braces.  Many dental insurance plans that provide orthodontic coverages do so after a year waiting period. This means you be better off buying the plan a year before  your son needs to have braces.
