School-Age Children

* Seeing the Dentist: Your child should see a dentist at least twice a year, unless otherwise specified by the dentist.

* At Home Dental Care Habits: You will want to supervise your child’s brushing until they are about seven to eight years of age. Encourage your child to floss daily too, and supervise until they reach age ten.

* Snacking: Kids like to snack there for lose the high-fat, high-sugar snacks and go for fresh fruits and vegetables, cheese and low-fat yogurt instead.  Doing so is not only good for their teeth but over all health care.

* Mouth Guards: Insist your child wear one during activities with a risk of falls or head contact with other players or equipment.  It dose not take much to knock out ones tooth if a ball or other sport equipment smacks you in the face.  A good mouth guard will protect and help prevent that from happening.  You can buy them in a drug store or have one costume fitted by your dentist.
