Pregnancy Dental Care

I am going to have my first child seven months.  What I would like to know is about dental care.  I heard that pregnant women may have a higher risk at getting gum disease.  Is that true? If so how do I avoid that from happening to me?  Is there any additional information I should tell my dentist or know about?  I have really nice teeth and gums so I just looking to keep them that way.
