Baby dental care, Brushing baby teeth

Wednesday, Jul. 7th 2010 10:43 AM

My daughter is going on 13 months and I have not yet started brushing her teeth.  I just wipe them down after she eats.  I know I need to start brushing soon right?

When do you start using a toothbrush to brush your baby’s teeth.?  Also what type of toothbrush do you use and how often should you brush your child teeth a day?  Sorry if this sounds like a silly question but it is all new to me and would love some advise.

Well you can get baby tooth brush or on of the finger tooth brushes if you feel you want to start with that. Make sure you use toothpaste that does not have fluoride in it.

If you can not find non fluoride toothpaste because sometimes that is hard to do ask you dentist or make sure you only use a smear of toothpaste. Babies do not spit out toothpaste so that is why it is important not to use fluoride toothpaste until your child is older.

You also might want to take your child to their first dental appointment. It is now advise to take your child to the dentist at the first tooth.

It is good in many ways. One it helps your child know the dentist which helps reduce any dental fears. Also keeping a good eye on your child teeth development helps nip any teeth issue in the bud.
