Thumb sucking and pacifiers are they harmfull to baby teeth

Can thumb sucking and pacifiers be bad for baby teeth?

I have a new born so right now it is not much of an issue since my daughter has no teeth.  But I was wanting to know what people think about thumb sucking and pacifiers.  I have hear mixed opinions about both.  Should I not give my daughter a pacifier when her teeth start coming in.  How about thumb sucking?  A little hard to try and get a baby to stop doing that right.  So is it a worry or should you just let them suck on either their thumb or a pacifier until they want to stop?
