Baby Dental Care, Orthodontic dental wax for braces.

My child orthodontist dentist gave me some wax for my son brace incase they start to scrach up his mouth. I notice he was eating it like gum, if he swallowed it, will I he get sick?? Will it cause any harm?  This is new for us and if that is an at all an issue I will not let him use the wax.
