Virginia dental care for babies, Should you have baby teeth pulled

Saturday, Jan. 1st 2011 9:13 AM

A little over a week ago I took my son who is only seven to see a dentist for his six month cleaning and check up.   I had to take him to a new dentist because the one he was seeing moved out of the area for me to travel too.

The new dentist is telling me that I need to pull out three baby teeth because he has large size cavities in them  and that I would need to get space maintainers so his adult teeth can still come in correctly.

Just six months ago he was find.  Beside that why do they need to be pulled?  He saying he can not do fillings but I do not understand the reasoning why not.

I  heard that  you should not take out baby teeth early but this was told to me by friends not a dentist.    I left saying I would talk things over with my husband though my husband says this does not sound right to him either.

Money is the the issue here but I just do not want my son to have to have teeth pulled for no reason.  Should I make the drive that is over 40 minutes to see our prior dentist to confirm this?  Feeling iffy about the whole thing.
