Correct way to brush your baby’s teeth

What is the right way to brush your baby’s teeth?

I have a seven month old son.  Besides  brushing his teeth twice a day, this there a correct way to brush them?  What can you use if you do not want to use toothpaste or even baby toothpaste.  Is there something else you can use until they are a little older?
