Which is better the better dental insurance plan to get a Dental PPO or Dental HMO.

I have a family of four and no dental insurance.  We had it in the pass with my wife prior employer but now that she is not working my job does not offer dental benefits and I just not sure which is the better dental plan type to get.  Which plan type saves you the most money in the short and long term.
