Cleft Palate please help

My sister son was born with a cleft palate.   This is her first child.  She is a signal parent and is a little overwhelmed  by this.  I would like to get her any helpful information.  Please advise what a dentist can do for a cleft palate.   She has been told that her son cleft palate really was not that bad and would be easily fixed.   So information would be helpful to her.
