When to Add Baby To Dental Insurance

Tuesday, Oct. 3rd 2017 9:05 AM

When is a Good Time?

Question: I just had a baby girl.  I have already added her to my health insurance policy that I receive though work.  I am wondering however,  just when I need to add her to my dental insurance?  Open enrollment comes up again in about another seven months.  Should add my baby to the dental plan at that time or should I buy a dental insurance plan just for her until then?  If I wait she will be around eight months, and I am thinking that is when her teeth will start to come in.  Does a baby need to see a dentist sooner?

Reply: The rule of thumb is that a child should see a dentist by their first birthday or when they cut their first tooth.  Which will put you around the time of your open enrollment from you work dental insurance plan.
