Tooth Decay from Nursing or Bottle Feeding – Baby Dental

Tuesday, Aug. 8th 2023 6:37 AM

How do you prevent cavities from nursing or bottle feeding?

I heard some babies can get dental cavities from nursing and bottle feeding. What can you do to prevent your baby from getting cavities from breastfeeding? I breastfeed my daughter. I would appreciate any advice given.

Reply: It is harder to get dental caries from breastfeeding/nursing. However, it can happen. Remember to clean your baby’s mouth and teeth after nursing to avoid dental caries from breastfeeding.

One of the main reasons why babies get caries from a bottle is that they are given a bottle with liquids other than water for long periods. Some people use a baby bottle like a pacifier, which is not the same when nursing a baby.
